SENTENCES OF RESTRICTION


A series of posters inspired by a sentence from Sol LeWitt’s Sentences on Conceptual Art, “Irrational thoughts should be followed absolutely and logically.” I set strict design restrictions and established certain methods to work within, which I used to guide my design decisions.

DATA PATCHES


Data Patches is a project about the fabrication and manipulation of reality through distributed media. Using an automated process, I take an individual’s image and manipulate the data to create a graphic symbol–the data patch–which is used to spread information about surveillance capitalism, wearable technology and data collection. The project explores the idea of using design intervention to discuss a broader topic.

FORM RESEARCH


A documentation of my work during Fall 2020 Form Studio at California College of the Arts. The images are an exploration of process. Each week, I was assigned a verb to perform, which I used as a starting point to explore different ways of creating and thinking. Many of the images are made by scanner manipulation.

ROOT CANAL ENCYCLOPEDIA


Using the event of getting a root canal as inspiration, I created a publication that details the procedure and other topics on dentistry, mixing in my personal experience throughout. I researched and documented the process, compiling images, articles and other stories that I then organized into five different sections to create a clear narrative of the event.

NEW TERRITORIES: AMAZON SEARCH TOOL


The visual search tool in the Amazon app occupies a space between the digital world and the physical world. This project focuses on how the visual search tool connects the virtual to the concrete, and vice versa. Using identity design as a political act, I investigate and establish the boundaries between these spaces and the power structures controlling them.

YATRA TYPE SPECIMEN


Yatra type specimen showcases the Yatra One font, designed by Catherine Leigh Schmidt. It’s a book and a poster, with one side functioning as an 8 panel book and the other as a single poster. The specimen shows off the physical characteristics of Yatra while also expressing the font’s unique history and narrative through the choice of text and form.

EXERCISES IN STYLE


A series of posters for the narrative “Dream” from Raymond Quenteau’s Exercises in Style. Working in black and white and using only typography, I designed the entire text from the story. The poster designs are inspired by the mood of the narrative and I used a mix of different styles such as ambigious, sympathetic and expository to guide my process.
